Summative Assesment:

All Art classes at Crystal Lake South have the same goal...
for you to
THINK like an Artist
ACT like an Artist
And BE like an Artist.
Instead of taking tests, quizs or a final exam, all art classes complete a portfolio displaying all work from the semester that includes written reflections that look back at your progress throughout the semester.
Make sure to...
Visual Portfolio
The visual portfolio will be a digital collection of everything that you make throughout the semester, including any extra practice and/or reworked projects. The portfolio will document your growth and learning. This portfolio will be the evidence of your growth, achievements and of your work ethic
Add finished work to each page of your portfolio and provide the 3 criteria statements:
- 2 statements about tools used
- 2 Statements about elements of art or principles of design used
- 2 statements about your feelings during the creation process
This portfolio is constantly updated and changing. It will be graded at Midterm, Quarter, Midterm & Semester. You can change it as much as you like. I will help you make it the best it can be.
In all of your reflections, try to be honest with your work throughout the semester - write about both your strengths and your weaknesses. Talk about what you were uncomfortable with at first and might be now, or what you might still be unsure about. The more details and specific examples you can point out, the better!

|
The incomplete portfolio demonstrates little to no effort to participate in the class as it is missing many assignments, reflections and classwork. The portfolio shows little to no growth in techniques & programs because there is not enough work to judge. To earn a passing grade the portfolio needs to be reworked and resubmitted.

Grading for formative assessments: 30%
Major and Minor Assignments
Submitted assignments will show up on your online grade book as a check mark. This check mark indicates that you have turned in the assignment. A zero will indicate that the assignment was not submitted and therefore has received no credit. Turning in assignments demonstrates your participation in the art-making process. While you will not be Graded on each individual assignment, you will receive feedback for each assignment from peers and the instructor.
Reworking/Resubmitting Assignments
After receiving feedback, you will have the opportunity to revise any assignment in an attempt to improve your skills. Revising past work allows you to grow and learn more. The evidence of your growth will result in a stronger portfolio, and possibly a better grade.
Extra Practice Assignments
Practice will improve your skills. We do not have a lot of time in class to practice. However, you may choose to create your own opportunities to practice during study halls, lunch or after school.
Evidence of extra practice should be included in your portfolio. Extra practice will improve your skills and potentially improve your grade.
Verbal and Written Reflections
You will be asked to participate in several evaluations of your artistic development via written reflections, and/or verbal conferences. Each quarter, the student and teacher
will have a conference in which they examine the student’s artwork in visual portfolio, and discuss evidence of growth and achievement. During these conferences the student will be asked to reflect upon their artistic growth
